POPULATION
- After London, the second biggest ethnic populations are in the
West Midlands (18 percent),
North West (13 percent)
and Yorkshire (7 percent).
- Nearly four out five Black Africans and three out of five Black Caribbeans live in London.
More than half of all Bangladeshis are also in the capital.
At the 2001 Census more than 4.6m people (7.9 percent of total) classified themselves as non-white, out of a total wpopulation of 58.7m. Indians are the largest minority group, followed by Pakistanis, those of mixed ethnic backgrounds, Black Caribbeans, Black Africans and Bangladeshis.
Half of the total ethnic population, around 2.3m, are Asians of Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi origin. A quarter describe themselves as Black and fifteen percent describe themselves as mixed.
